About Online Learning
With the growing advances in technology the internet and computers are allowing people to be able to fit more activities and options into their lives with a simple click of a mouse. Finding everything from your entire Christmas shopping gift list online to mapping out the directions to your next destination, computers are making our lives more and more enjoyable. We simply have more time to do everything we have ever wanted to do.
We can even experience online education. What is distance learning or online education? What is online learning? Or what is meant by online training? The definition of online learning or online training is that it is a form of further education that can conveniently be conducted through the comfort and convenience of the internet and your own lap top or desk top computer. The definition online learning is simply the activity of learning through virtual classrooms and taking courses that are offered online without having to attend a physical classroom.
Many people who are not familiar with online education may wonder, what is the value of an online degree? Depending on what online program you choose the value will be seen differently by different organizations. For the most part, if you choose an online education program that is accredited it will be seen just like any other school that you attend in person. Accreditation means that a specific state or states recognize that program as having met a certain standard of educational requirements. If you want to make sure the online education program you attend is seen as legitimate education, you will most likely want to find an online program with accreditation.
What is wrong with online training? While there are many benefits to online training, there are still some drawbacks. Because you will not be attending a physical in-person classroom setting you will be missing out on some important and valuable learning that can take place only with an in-person live situation. In addition, because online training is still a relatively new alternative avenue to the more traditional forms of education, some companies may not look at it with the same degree of prestige as they do other more established forms of education.
And, if you are a person who likes to know historical facts about a subject you are interested in, you may want to know, what was the first online degree program? Interestingly enough it was from the University of California, Irvine. And, it was for a Master’s degree in Criminology, Law & Society. This was back in the fall of 2003.
